Special Teams Mirror Tackle Drill

Purpose

The purpose of this Special Teams Mirror Tackle Drill is to teach and practice patience and making a save open field tackle.

Description

Both cones are 5-yards from the dot. Tackler and Return man reach the dot they will both break down and return man will shuffle right and left.  When the coach blows the whistle the tackler will run through the return man and make the tackle.

Coaching Points

  • Keep good football position when shuffling
  • Stress importance of save tackle
