Zig-Zag Run drills

Purpose

  • To develop hip flexibility, body balance, and increase body control.

Description

  1. Place 3 to 5 players 5 yards apart in a straight line.
  2. The ball carrier will start at one end of the line and "Zig-Zag" between the players.
  3. The runner should keep eyes up, drop hips to change direction, gather (no stutter steps) before direction change, head north and south and accelerate.

Coaching Points

  • Protecting the ball
  • Body balance and control
  • No stutter steps
  • "Use all cleats" - plant outside foot in original direction.
  • Knee over planting foot
  • Explode off planted foot quick
