Turn and up

Purpose

The purpose of this drill is to help improve the player's ability to catch the ball near a sideline and instead of going out of bounds, turn up field and go.

Description

Use the same procedure as in the Tap Dance drill. The ball should be thrown 7 to 8 yards in front of the player so he can adjust to turning upfield. The drill is used from both sides.

Coaching Points

Emphasize catching the ball and then stress the use of good body control to turn upfield, staying in bounds.

Equipment

  • Balls
  • Sideline
  • eventually Quarterback(s)
