Play Recognition Drill

Purpose

To teach the linebackers to read the play by watching the backfield and executing the corresponding task, depending on the play read.

Description

Place cones to represent the offensive linemen and have a QB or Coach and two running backs (these could be LBs playing RBs).

You should have your opponents plays drawn up on cards.

Have your linebackers read the opponents plays by watching the backfield action and get to their assignments.

Coaching Points

I believe that you have someone assigned for FILL, SCRAPE, CUTBACK and BOUNCE on every play.

  • 6 or 7 Cones
