Pick-up and Go Form Tackling Drill

Pick-up and Go Form Tackling Drill

Purpose

Defensive Line Drill to improve the quickness of the defensive linemen to get into a good hit position to make a secure tackle. - This puts some more pressure on the Tackler to get up and into his hit position, since the ball carrier will be quicker than in the Get-up and Go Form Tackling Drill

Description & Coaching Points

  1. Defensive Lineman lies on his back, head to the ball, use dummies or pylons to mark boundaries
  2. On command, defensive lineman jumps to his feet and find the ball carrier
  3. The ball carrier is standing with his back to the ball
  4. Ball carrier must turn, pick up the ball and run between the dummies/pylons
  5. Tackling defensive line man must move his feet and stay in front of the ballcarrier
