Pick-up and Go Form Tackling Drill
Purpose
Defensive Line Drill to improve the quickness of the defensive linemen to get into a good hit position to make a secure tackle. - This puts some more pressure on the Tackler to get up and into his hit position, since the ball carrier will be quicker than in the Get-up and Go Form Tackling Drill
Description & Coaching Points
- Defensive Lineman lies on his back, head to the ball, use dummies or pylons to mark boundaries
- On command, defensive lineman jumps to his feet and find the ball carrier
- The ball carrier is standing with his back to the ball
- Ball carrier must turn, pick up the ball and run between the dummies/pylons
- Tackling defensive line man must move his feet and stay in front of the ballcarrier
