Thoughts about the current College Football Bowl System
I think that this season showed clearly how sick this whole voting system is:
- the #1 ranked teams are an astounding low 9-5 over the season (with LSU being responsible for 2 of the losses)
- the #2 ranked teams are even 3-7 over the last 10 weeks (including the BCS Championship Bowl).
And as I said before:
None of the teams (LSU and OSU) deserved it more than a lot of other teams to play the “Championship” Bowl!
Why?
Well, the rankings were wrong most of the time (see above stats) during the whole season, why in heavens sake should they be right just now? Two more games for everybody, and again two totally different teams would be on the top 2 spots…
So yes playoffs are the only reasonable solution!
Just imagine:
We had 32 Bowl Games this season, that means 64 of 118 Div IA teams went to a Bowl. That’s more than half of them. That’s such an inflation of Bowl Games. I wonder how they found enough teams with a non-loosing record. I thought it should be a reward for an outstanding season to go to a Bowl, not a reward for going at least .500…
If 32 teams would enter the playoffs (that’s still 1/2 of all teams going to mostly meaningless Bowls this year) we would have exactly 31 games! Within 5 weeks!
And no complaints form all sides: they didn’t play for 45 or 51 days! Let the Playoffs begin on the first or second Weekend in December, and the title game would be just as it is now…
What do you think?
