Harbaugh new Ravens Head Coach
The Raven’s search for a new head coach is suprisingly quick over, considering that Jason Garrett turned their offer down, just about 2 days ago: John Harbaugh, former Philadelphia Eagles defensive backs coach, is the new Baltimore Ravens head coach. Now speculations as who will be offensive ( Pat Shurmur, currently Eagles quarterbacks coach) and defensive ( Rex Ryan??) coordinator arise.
Eric Mangini announced that Bill Callahan will take on the job of assistant head coach/offense for the New York Jets.
Mike Heimerdinger returns to Tennessee as their offensive coordinator after two years with the Denver Broncos . Heimerdinger has been with the Titans already from 2000 through 2004.
As already reported Jason Garrett stays with the Dallas Cowboys receiving the title assistant head coach, a title that got unoccupied after the departure of Tony Sparano, who left to become the new Miami Dolphins head coach. The other part of Sparano’s duties will be taken over by no foreigner to the Dallas Cowboys: Hudson Houck will probably be the new offensive line coach, a position he already had from 1993 through 2001.
The decision by Garrett keeps the Atlanta Falcons further on the search, just as the Redskins who’s hopes for Jim Mora, jr. also got destroyed by his decision to stay with the Seattle Seahawks. The Falcons however had their first interview with Minnesota Vikings’ defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier on Saturday, Jan 19th.
Another assistant who remains with his current team, despite other speculations, is Monte Kiffin, he just signed a contract extension with the Tampy Bay Buccaneers to extend his already 12 year lasting tenure in Tampa Bay.
The offensive line coaching duties at Miami will be taken care of by Mike Maser. Maser has been the offensive line coach for the Carolina Panthers from 2003 through 2006.
As Tony Dungy hasn’t decided yet (his decision is expected Monday, Jan 21st) if he will return for another season with the Colts, his successor has been already declared, independent to when the succeeding actually will take place: Jim Caldwell.
Charles Bailey, pro personnel director of the Jacksonville Jaguars got fired on Saturday and his duties will from now on also handled by college scouting director Gene Smith, who has been promoted to executive director of college and pro personnel.
Darvin Wallas retires after 19 years being the defensive assistant/quality control coach, and in total a 26 year NFL coaching carreer.
And last not least:
St. Louis Rams owner Georgia Frontiere dies at age 80 from breast cancer.
She has been the owner of the Rams for almost 30 years after inheriting the Rams from her sixth husband, Carroll Rosenbloom. She moved the Rams twice: From the L.A. Colloseum to Anaheim in 1980, and 15 years later to St. Louis.
