Only a 3 days after being diagnosed of having pancreatic cancer Gene Upshaw dies on Wednesday, August 20th at the age of 63.

Hall of Famer Gene Upshaw played for 15 seasons with the Oakland Raiders including two Super Bowl wins and seven Pro Bowl appearances…

After his active career he became executive director of the players’ association. In his 25 tenure he fought many battles for more freedom and more money for the players: He made free agency possible and the salary cap was installed.

According to various resources his newest plans were to get rid of the salary cap alltogether…

The NFLPA in the meantime assigned Richard Berthelsen Interim Executive Director

All our thoughts go out to his wife, Terri, and their three sons – Eugene, Justin and Daniel…

Brett Favre soon no Packer no more?

Posted on August 6th, 2008 in NFL by coachroth

Rumors are that Brett Favre will be traded to either the New York Jets or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers within the next few hours…

It will be interesting to see if his (sometimes) Gunslinger mentality will be be better tolerated and put to positive results by Buccaneers’ Coach Jon Gruden, who’s on the one side known to be able to deal with, let’s say difficult, players, but on the other hand is not known for his patience… or with the rather seemingly calm Jets’ Head coach Eric Mangini…

But since it can be only one, we’ll not be able to compare…
